Lesson Plan #5

                                                                                  Shakers

Age: 6-7 years old

Location: Rug/Play Area

Objective:

• To introduce the song “Clap, Clap, Clap Your Hands”

• To help children understand how we can use shakers safely to show music and movement.

• To have the children be able to show me a beat with the shakers.

Procedure:

a) Warm Up/ Introduction:

b) Transition:

c) Culmination/Ending:

• I will ask the children to show me what a beat is.

• I will introduce the song, “Clap, Clap, Clap Your Hands” and sing it to them one time.

• I will ask the children what movement they can incorporate after hearing the song one time.

• The children will sing along with me the second time clapping to the beat.

• I will introduce the shakers and explain to the children about safety.

• I will have the first child demonstrate along with me and we will tap the shakers on floor while singing the song.

• Finally, I will have two other children have a turn with the shakers to show me if they understood what we were learning.

My Evaluation:

The children were able to show me that they understood what a beat is. After I introduced

the song once, I asked the children what word in the song told them what movement we could

do in the song. The children replied and said, “Clapping!” The children also clapped to show me

that they understood. I then asked them to repeat the song after me for the second time. Instead,

they sang along and clapped with me. The children were able to demonstrate how to use the

shakers safely and sing along to the song. The difficulty was that the children didn’t repeat after

me instead sang with me. I realized I missed out on explaining an important concept of why we

could use shakers in music. However, if I had more time I would want to expand the lesson by

having the children make their own shakers that they could keep.
