Title: Masks

Time Allotted for Lesson: 30 minutes
This lesson will be completed in one session.
Instructional Objectives:
- Students will learn that every culture has their own mask.
- Will be able to create a mask.
- To be able to have an understanding about masks.
Vocabulary:

Materials:
- Visuals of masks from diverse cultures
- Crayola Modeling Clay
- Glitter Glue
- Construction Paper
Motivation: I will read the book to the students to help spark their interest.
Questions:
- Why are masks created?
- What type of mask is made in your culture?
- How will you create a mask that represents you?
Procedure:
- Pass around the visuals of masks from the different cultures.
- Hand out Crayola Modeling Clay.
- Have the glitter glue handed out.
- Ask students to design a mask that represents them.
- Students will put their finished work on construction paper.
- Students will share their mask they made with the class.
Student Evaluation: Evaluate the student’s progress.
- How are people affected by masks?
- How do you tell the difference between each mask?
- Why do you think diverse cultures have masks?
Extension Activities: Using the mask that you made, write a description of how your makes reminds you of your culture.
Attach Visuals to the Lesson Plan: Show pictures of masks that relate to the lesson.
