Log # 3 (Language and development)
1. Setting:
At P.S 215, I work with Kindergarten children they ages were 4&5 years old.During my observation of my study child, I started to see how my study child learned and understand the concept of language.  The day of the observation took place Monday morning during literacy lesson.  The literacy lesson was being taught in thr kindergarten class K-310 on the learning rug and also at the child table. The tone of the lesskn began a little noisy then quiet once the lesson started.  
2. Description
My study child is a boy who is five years old, and vomes from a chinese culture and speaks English.  During the observation my study child was wearing a grey  sweater, light blue pants and his  rainboots. 
3.observation
In the kindergarten class K-310, where the literacy lesson was being taught, the children was almost done with snack.  Snack time was over and the kindergarten teacher told the class to start cleaning up. While the children was cleaning up the kindergarten teacher was gathering her materials for her lesson.  The teacher then tells the children to push their chairs in and come on the rug. My study child followed the teacher instructions and then took his assigned spot on the rug. The children were on the rug talking to each other as they waitied for the kindergarten teacher. The teacher got the children attention by saying " 1,2,3 all eyes on me",and she also said to sit right by saying " chris cross, apple sauce."The teacher then began her lesson by asking the children " what they see on the cover".My study child raised his hand and says"The title".The kindergarten teacher response were " Thats right", Good job". My study child was very happy. He started to smile and showed that he was happy about giving the teacher the right answer.  The teacher began reading the story to the class and showinh them the different things you can do with a box. She then asked each child which traveling idea they like using a box. My study child responded very clearly " A rocket ship."After each  child was finish giving their idea she then assigned an assignment which was to draw the idea that each child gave to the teacher.  The ideas were " Rocket ship, boat, car, building on fire, and also an elephant.  My study child took a paper from the teacher and began to write his name on the top of the paper. Next he then begins to start drawing his picture.  I then asked my study child " what was he going to make." His response was " rocket ship."Saying his idea he seem very excited and had and good understand on what was going on in the story. He also followed the teacher instructions.  While drawing his picture he then asked one of his peers "what you drawing, and his classmate respond was " race car". My study child began to add color and once he was done he then wrote what the picture was. He then told me he was he was finished and showed me his picture.  I asked him what it is . He told me "rocket ship. Showed me where he put the box tht was inside the rocket ship.  I said " wow thats really cool; "good job." He as excited because he was smiling then he turn to his classmate and asked him "Was he  done." His classmate  responsed " Almost done" and my study showed his peer his work before handing it in. Doing this activity,  my study child understood the concept of the activity.  He also understood what was being read and also the different things that was made out of the box.
4. Since doing my observation of my study child I saw how the concepts of the literacy assignment.  He also has develop better communication skills and was able to express himself in his drawing. He also showed that he was very interested in participating in the lesson by answering question, with the right answer and following the instructions that were instructed by the kindergarten teacher. 
Interpretation
According to the book the children uses language skills to be able to express themselves.  Does a child listen, remember, and follow instructions? Yes the child understans what is being instructed by the teacher and also follows instructions very well without being told twice. The child also responses to stories that is read by the teacher by participating in the kesson giving the correct answer to the teacher question. The child also shows interest I. Expressing what he learn about the story by drawing pictures on what he learned.
